How to ‘Bloco’ in Rio’s 2019 Carnival

Carnival officially begins on March 1st — oh, but there’s so much to do between now and then!  Expecting over 1 MILLION tourists to visit the Cidade Maravilhosa for Carnival, the city has approved 509 official ‘blocos’ (Carnival street parties) which will take place over the next several days.  Whether you are new to Carnival this year, or find your memory a little hazy from last year, read on for tips on How to ‘Bloco’ in Rio’s 2019 Carnival:

2017 Carnival Blocos Have Big Order to Fill

On Friday, RIO city officials published the list of approved blocos (or street parades) for 2017 Carnival celebrations.  Although the city government hopes that tourism associated with the celebrations will provide a much-needed boost to RIO’s economy, the number of approved blocos is down 53 from last year.  That just means the 463 approved blocos will have to really show tourists how to party and get them in a spending mood!
