Corcovado-Christ the Redeemer

World famous and seen from much of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Corcovado is the most significant site in all of Rio, a must see!  Located in the Tijuca National Park, at more than 2000 feet high Corcovado offers a sweeping panoramic view of the sea and mountains.  The mountain is crowned by the 100-foot high statue of Christ the Redeemer with open arms.

Cosme Velho, take Ladeira dos Guararapes, then take the steepest street to the right, Rua Conselheiro Lampreia to the intersection signposted “Corcovado- Mirante” and turn to the left. Once on Estrada das Paineiras there is a new signpost “Paineiras-Corcovado”. Cars can only go as far as Paineiras, where there is a parking lot. From there, visitors take an authorized van up to the monument.
