A Fresh Way to Experience South America

Remains of Brazilian Football Legend Missing

A rather disturbing post today…Manuel Francisco dos Santos, known by the nickname Garrincha, helped Brazil achieve victory at the World Cup in 1958 and 1962 and played for his nation 50 times between 1955 and 1966.  Garrincha passed away in 1983.  But today, his remains are missing, understandably causing much concern and grief for his family and loved ones:

RIO Celebrates World Burger Day May 28th

Today’s post calls out to all burger fans.  Sunday, May 28th is World Burger Day and food venues throughout the city are getting prepared–some have been celebrating burgers all month!  In addition to the 40+ restaurants who have participated in Burger Fest 2017, you can also grab a beefy bite at the “Ipanema Urbana” culinary market, May 27th and 28th, from 12AM to 10PM.

A Fusion of Brazilian and Bachian Notes

Today’s featured article celebrates the life and musical contributions of Heitor Villa-Lobos, a Brazilian composer born in RIO who fused music from the streets of Brazil with Bach-inspired musical structures.  Sixty years ago, Villa-Lobos traveled to Paris where he recorded Bachianas Brasilieras (Brazilian Bachian) pieces.  The rest is history.  Read on!
