1,000 March in Remembrance of Slain Human Rights Activist

Last week Marielle Franco, member of the Rio de Janeiro City Council, was shot and killed along with her driver while returning from an event aimed at empowering black women.  Franco was the only black female representative on the council–one of seven women–and many say that she not only broke barriers but also gave hope and a voice to those who felt they had neither.  Read on for more:
