Brazilian Teen Raps for Indigenous Land Rights

During the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, then 13-year old Werá Jeguaka Mirim was selected with two other youth to release doves as part of the event ceremony.  As a surprise to many, Werá also held up a sign he’d hidden in his underwear that read: Demarcation Now!  The declaration to support the land rights of indigenous communities wasn’t televised, however the experience has inspired the teen to continue his support for indigenous land rights…with rap.  Read on to find out how Werá has translated his love for music into a peaceful protest:

Mayor Crivella Celebrates Tolerance

Rio Mayor, Marcelo Crivella attended Rio’s first Jewish street festival this past Sunday, celebrating the Jewish community and tolerance along with 9,000 Jews and non-Jews.  If you missed this year’s event, which included music, dance, cinema, literature, science, food and more, be sure to check it out in 2018!

Brazil a Welcome Host for Refugees

Brazil is a refuge to nearly nine thousand refugees from eighty different nationalities, according to the National Committee for Refugees (CONARE).  In 2013, Brazil simplified the countries visa procedures, allowing ease of access to certain immigrants in need of asylum.  This government ordinance, paired with the country’s natural beauty has made it a preferred home away from home for refugees.  Read on for more:

Wedding Crashers Unleashed

A Sao Paulo couple was instantly transformed into a family of three when a stray dog crashed their wedding recently.  Despite ushers attempts to shoo the dog from the wedding tent, it persisted, eventually spreading itself out for a nap on the train of the bride’s wedding gown!  Read on for the heartfelt ending to this story:
